An alcohol and drug intervention is a common tactic used by family members and friends of an alcoholic or drug addict. The intervention itself is often facilitated by a professional interventionist, with words of encouragement and support from family and friends. Planning the intervention is extremely important. The timing must be planned appropriately and everyone present at the intervention must remain non-judgmental to avoid attacking the individual. The atmosphere must be encouraging and supportive so that the individual understands the kind of support network that they have. The ultimate goal is to assist the individual in confronting the reality of his or her addiction and to encourage him or her to enter a treatment program.

Alcohol center treatment is one option for recovering alcoholics. Alcohol center treatment provides recovering alcoholics with a comprehensive recovery program geared towards sobriety and abstinence. Other types of programs for recovering alcoholics include outpatient programs such as Alcoholics Anonymous, or other 12-step programs. In order to be successful in an alcohol recovery program an individual must have the desire to recover. If an individual is coerced into treatment and has no yearning to get better, it will be nearly impossible for them to achieve sobriety. The first step must be an attitude readjustment. Once an individual has the correct attitude, he or she can achieve anything.

Sober Living
Relearning sober living can be extremely difficult and time consuming. However, once an individual regains control over his or her life, and regains the ability to live without a particular substance, it becomes clear how worth it it is. Sober living can be learned through various treatment programs and through various therapy forms. Working with others who are in similar situations can be beneficial as the mutual support creates a new type of support.
