Relapse Prevention: Helping An Addict Stay Sober For Life
Sober Addicts Don’t Always Stay Sober
An addict can enter rehab and come out on the other side the person that you knew and fell in love with. You can spend years with them where they will continue to be sober. Unfortunately, there may be a day where something happens and they reach for the bottle or go out and score drugs off their friends or an old contact. What caused them to fall? Any numbers of things: pressure at work, home, family, friends. A traumatic event can cause an addict to fall.
Making Friends For Life In Sober Homes
Not everyone that exits rehab comes out of it with friends. Some people feel they’ve talked about such deeply private stuff in rehab that they don’t want to see any of those people ever again. Rehab can be a safe haven for an addict to open up about themselves because they are talking to strangers and not to family or friends. However, others do make friends for live in rehab or when the exit rehab and enter into sober homes where they meet more recovering addicts like themselves.
Rehab Helps Prepare An Addict For Relapse Prevention
Relapse prevention is possible by making sure that an addict has a support system in place post rehab. Usually while in rehab the staff and counselors try to get the addict to open up about what causes them to abuse alcohol and drugs. What pressures they have in life that make them feel like they need alcohol and or drugs to survive. Once they get the addict to realize why they abuse then they try and set up a strong support system post rehab so that the addict doesn’t relapse due to stress, whether it’s work or family or both.
